When my first son was born, there was only one film series that I thoroughly trusted. I knew that these high-quality videos would be free from bad attitudes, false philosophies, chaotic images, or noxious sounds. I also knew that the films would cultivate a taste for beauty, an appreciation for the natural world, a love of science, and a sound theological perspective on the Creator. They were also tons of fun. Ten years and a total of eight children later, my opinion is still the same.
For my money, the Moody Science Video Classics are the most God-honoring, entertaining, theologically sound, instructive, and family-friendly video series available.
More than fifty years ago, the aptly named Dr. Irwin Moon of Moody Science had a dream. It was his goal to do what no one had done before: Produce top-quality family films about the God of creation that would teach character and hold the attention of the entire family. Moon succeeded — and in spades.
Hundreds of thousands of children, like my own, have grown up with the memorable stories documented in these films. It has been half-a-decade since my son saw his first Moody Science video, but I am always amazed to see with what accuracy he recounts detail after detail. Because these films touch on history, science, and theology, we find them to be very helpful supplements to our family's home education program.
Because this year is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his book The Origin of Species, it is more important to teach my children to understand and defend true science then ever before. Darwin taught the world to worship the creation more than the Creator. Now the modern world worships Darwin. That is one reason why I am once again directing my children to watch this wonderful Moody video series — where they learn to understand and appreciate the amazing creation, but worship the Creator.
People jaded by the typical Christian schlock available on video these days may find Dr. Moon’s films dated. After all, there are no screaming graphics, raucous music, or frenetic scene transitions. The host usually wears a suit, and the images are uplifting. In other words, they lack the chaos and mind-numbing manipulation techniques of the modern rock-and-roll-addicted, graphics-crazy film world.
But, boy can they capture the imagination of a child. You see, Irwin Moon understood something that many churches need to learn today: You don’t need to sink to the lowest-common-denominator of foolishness to teach truth. You don't even need talking cucumbers or giggling tomatoes to capture the attention of a child.
Instead, Moon turned to the world of the Venus Fly trap, to secret technologies of ancient man, to the wonder of the electrical eel, to instrument-based aviation, to the world of the trap-door spider, to the innovations of the Clown-Faced Carpenter bird, and to thousands of other mysteries of creation to entertain and teach character.
But what makes these films special is that they are multi-generational. By this I mean that they were designed for the two-year-old as well as the sixty-two-year-old. The whole family loves them. Furthermore, unlike most of the silliness for children being produced in Christian circles today, these videos, originally produced in the mid-1900s, have withstood the test of time and will continue to do so.

A year ago you recommended the Moody video series. We purchased them because of your very compelling reasons to do so. We have been thrilled with them one of the best investments for our home schooling children. Thank you so much for providing them for us at such a great price. Not only are they timeless since they point to the Creator, but they speak to all age levels my children ages eighteen to six talk together about each video for hours after viewing it!
