A Story of Ancient Egypt (1250 B.C.)

Henty immersed himself in the historical records of many nations and times. This book is the first in chronology of Henty’s tales, circa 1250 B.C. Egypt dominated the ancient world for centuries and Henty gives his young readers unsurpassed insight into the domestic life, customs, religion, and military system of that ancient kingdom.

Amuba, a prince of the Rebu nation on the shores of the Caspian sea, is carried with his charioteer Jethro into slavery after losing a vicious battle with the Egyptians. They become inmates of the house of Ameres, the Egyptian high priest, and are happy in his service until the priest’s son accidentally kills the sacred cat of Bubastes. In an outburst of popular fury Ameres is killed, and it rests with Jethro and Amuba to secure the escape of the high priest’s son and daughter. After many dangers they succeed in crossing the desert to the Red Sea, and eventually make their way back to the Caspian Sea and freedom.
