Christian Character Read-aloud Library for Summer

Some of these books were the very first spiritual novelettes that I read to my little children as a young father. The stories are wonderful and each of them evinces a no-compromise, no-holds-barred commitment to the highest ideals of the Christian life. Often throughout the course of child training, I have referenced my children to specific phrases, mottos, and morals taken directly from these stories.

Vision Forum is pleased to present an inexpensive, accessible, doctrinally strong, enjoyable set of beautiful Gospel stories with hard-hitting character lessons for your family. The authors of these books have high regard for the sovereignty of God and the great Reformation truths of justification by faith and the sufficiency of Scripture. This means your children will enjoy delightful stories with profound teachings on virtue in the context of sound doctrine. The stories are short enough to be read in a few sittings, or perfect to be given to your children for their own personal devotionals and Scripture studies. The novelette-sized stories cover a broad gamut of issues from the importance of conforming our personal language and attitudes to the standards of holiness set out in Scripture, to the necessity of standing alone for Jesus Christ.

In the nineteenth century, as America rapidly expanded westward, ministers of the gospel were in great demand. The new lands of the West needed taming, but so did the hearts of those who ventured into this unclaimed and often uncharted territory. What men and their families needed was to hear of the hope they had in Christ and to be admonished to cultivate lives of character, even as they sought to take dominion of the new land where they now made their homes.

Onto the dusty trail came an army of colporteurs, traveling agents for Christ who sold and distributed Christian literature across the expanding frontier. Bearing tracts, booklets, and Bibles for adults and children, these men were key instruments whom God used to bring about revival and to encourage families in the Lord.

No organization sent more colporteurs into the mountains and prairies during this time than the American Tract Society. With hundreds of colporteurs on their rolls, ATS not only printed a host of gospel tracts, but they published scores of great stories on godly character that built families up in their faith.

While most of the American frontier has been conquered, the need for Christ-honoring literature remains the same. That is why Vision Forum is pleased to offer our set of the “Colporteur Family Classics,” a collection of twenty short stories that emphasize the importance of godly character. Many of these little books originally bore the ATS imprint, and like their predecessors, they are printed in paperback and priced to be affordable. Great for younger readers and for use as family read-alouds, these gripping tales all point to Christ and call the reader to live a life devoted to love and good works.

Now through Monday, July 11, you can purchase the Colporteur Family Classics, a set of twenty books, for just $90 — $40 off our per-book retail price! This comes to just $4.50 a book for this collection. Sale ends midnight, July 11, 2005 (CDT).
