Anna Sofia Contrasts Biblical Daughterhood with 'Princess Diaries'

My next example of a princess is not a real princess. Though she’s a fictional character, this “princess” has a very real influence on the hearts and minds of girls today. But she does NOT fit the definition of a real princess. Though she defines the term for some girls, she profanes the true sense of the term. She was depicted as shallow, immature, irresponsible, selfish, consumed by fear of public opinion and the desire to conform, at the beginning and the end of the movie. Her few illustrations of character growth were shallow and did not indicate a real change of heart. Anna Botkin on The Princess Diaries
For many of us, the 2006 Father and Daughter Retreat seemed to reach a crescendo of practical and spiritual encouragement with the Saturday evening keynotes by Geoff Botkin and his two daughters Anna Sofia (pictured above) and Elizabeth, authors of the Vision Forum book So Much More. Anna Sofia told the compelling story of how her father discipled her using diverse and remarkable training opportunities geared at promoting the goal of noble, biblical womanhood. Most helpful was her careful explanation of the difference between the false vision of buffoon-like womanhood promoted by films like The Princess Diaries, or the feministic rebellion of Teddy Roosevelt’s eldest daughter Alice, which stand in strong opposition to the biblical womanhood of the Hawaiin Princess Kaiulani. Look for this important CD to be available from Vision Forum in the near future.
