Tonight I will be in Virgina with my father and mother to celebrate the 35th anniversary of my father’s organization The Conservative Caucus. Since 1974, my father has sought to defend our constitutional freedoms by heading the only conservative grass roots lobbying organization with contacts in all 435 congressional districts.
I remember as a young man traveling with my father, as he was starting the Conservative Caucus, to all of the 435 congressional districts. Over these last 35 years my father has been in the vanguard on the most important issues of the day. Whether it was in support of global ballistic missile defense, which came to be known as SDI, or fighting for the repeal of the Clark Amendment (which blocked U.S. aid to anti-Soviet freedom fighters in Angola), or opposing the Jimmy Carter-supported SALT treaties, or testifying before the United States Senate to oppose the nomination of Justice David Souter to the Supreme Court because he understood that Souter was a pro-abortion justice, or even leading the charge in having charges of impeachment brought against former president Bill Clinton, Dad has been the leading voice when others have not known what to do.
Joining my dad to celebrate his accomplishments will be Congressman Ron Paul giving the keynote address, and there will be speeches by Richard Viguerie (chairman of American Target Advertising), Major Andy Messing, Dr. David Noble of Summit Ministries, yours truly, and a special musical performance by Charlie Zahm and fiddler Tad Marks. I hope you can join me if you are in the area tonight for a special opportunity to honor my father.
