To create an Everyday News episode, you will need to do four things: (1) Prepare; (2) Record; (3) Edit; and (4) Submit.

I. Prepare

  1. Plan
    • Plan what you want your episode to be about.
    • Write out what you want your reporter to say and rehearse.
    • Think about the camera shots, cuts, and B-roll you plan to show in your completed episode.
  2. Equip
    • Buy Digital8 tapes, MiniDV tapes, or DVDs for your camcorder.

II. Record your introduction, closing, voiceovers, and B-roll footage with your reporter(s) and any interviewees.

III. Edit

  1. Import
    • Connect your camcorder to your computer using a FireWire cable.
    • Open your editing software on your computer and import or log and capture the footage from your camcorder to your computer.
  2. Develop
    • Arrange the video clips you imported in the timeline on your editing software.
    • Adjust the audio as necessary to make sure it is audible, but not too loud. Also, please make sure the audio is averaging to a consistent volume level.
  3. Save
    • As you are working on your editing, periodically save the changes you have made to your video project.
    • Be sure to save all your progress when you have completed your video project.

IV. Submit

  1. Export
    • Using your editing software, save or export your video project as an uncompressed QuickTime or DV file.
  2. Burn a CD
    • Insert a blank compact disc into your computer’s CD-R drive.
    • Drag the QuickTime or DV file you exported from your computer to the blank CD.
    • Burn the CD.
  3. Register Submission
    • Fill out the submission form to receive your official ENN registration ID, to be used for tracking and reference.
  4. Ship
    • Write the name and registration ID of the ENN episode on the top of the CD.
    • Package the CD for shipment.
    • Ship the packaged CD to the Everyday News Network.
