The Black Lava World of The Mysterious Islands

The image above is of Peter Bradrick, myself, and Joshua on the black lava rocks of the Island of Fernandina in the Galapagos Archipelago. In the background, you can faintly see Isabela, which is the biggest volcanic island of the Galapagos. I have placed an extra-large image for those of you who might like to use this shot as a screensaver.

Shortly after we left the Galapagos, Fernandina erupted again and the island flowed with lava killing animals, wiping out vegetation, and reshaping the topography of part of the island. We were all disappointed that we were not there to film such an exciting event, especially my daughter Liberty, who reminded us that one of the past episodes of Jonathan Park includes a scene on the island of Fernandina in which the volcano blows.
