CNN reports today that evolutionary scientist and professional religious skeptic Richard Dawkins has argued that evolution and God are mutually incompatible. On this point we completely agree. This being said, Dawkins fails to acknowledge the religious nature of his own evolutionary scientism. He is correct in recognizing the complete incompatibility of evolution with Christianity, but he is dead wrong when he asserts that science and religion are incompatible. Whether it is openness to the bizarre theory of human origins known as panspermia, or his faith-driven religious commitment to the unproven assumptions of evolutionary theory, Dawkins appears to be one of the most religious men of our day—except for everyone else.
However, according to the CNN report, Dawkins believes he is in a “state of war” with creationists in defending the tenets of Darwinism or evolution which he thinks are one in the same. The Bible teaches that all men have an object of worship. They either worship and serve the creature or they worship and serve the Creator (Romans1:25), but they definitely worship something. Dawkins’ incessant harping and overt blaspheming against the Bible and the God of Scriptures reflects the true nature of his own religious devotion.
