How the Message 'Listen' Helped one Mother

I wanted to thank you for your wonderful message in the Listen CD. I was planning to place an order and decided to do so on the day you were throwing in the free CD. I figured my kids could learn a little something more about listening, right? Well, this mom certainly did!!! God spoke to my heart through your words of wisdom regarding listening, really listening, by making eye contact and stopping whatever else I am doing to truly hear what my children are saying. In the busyness of life I had gotten hung up on continuing what I was doing while my children or husband talked to the side of my head. I know that my ears are there, but real listening comes from my eyes and my heart. Thank you for opening the eyes, ears, and heart of this mom. It is the best Christmas gift I will be giving this year. God bless! —A mom of five!

In this new message, Listen: What the Bible Says About Being a Good Listener, I share what the Bible teaches in regards to listening and its practical application for husbands and wives and for parents and children. Many questions are addressed including the question: How can parents train their children to be better listeners — first to God, then to their parents?

Purchase a copy of the CD Listen: What the Bible Says About Being a Good Listener or download the message from BlueBehemoth.com.

Watch the Video: Pilgrimage to Scrooby, Home of the Pilgrims. See the Rare Clip Inside the Manor House

Our pilgrimage to Scrooby, was the fulfillment of a lifetime dream. But thanks to a good friend and Vision Forum supporter who is close to the private family that owns Scrooby Manor House, we were actually able to take our cameras inside the 800 year old Scrooby Manor House. At the end of the video, watch this very rare look at the room where Bradford, Brewster and Robinson gathered the Separatists who would become the Mayflower Pilgrims.

Seven Things to Do With Your Family This Thanksgiving

Many of my happiest memories as a young man, and now as the head of my own household, come from Thanksgiving. Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been a day where our dearest loved ones gather around the table and feast, followed by a time of poetry reading, Scripture recitations, song, more feasting, and family story telling. But more than anything, Thanksgiving has come to be a time when we focus as a family on gratitude. It is a time to humble ourselves in the face of God’s great mercy, and to chronicle the providences and blessings of God in our life. One of the blessings for which we are most grateful is you — the many friends of Vision Forum. So this year, the Phillips family wants to begin our Thanksgiving celebration by sharing seven simple recommendations for your own day of thanksgiving.

1. Stop and Thank God from the Bottom of Your Heart and the Depths of Your Soul

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. —Psalm 95:1-6 If you were to spend every waking moment of every day for the rest of your life noting God’s goodness, you would never begin to chronicle all the things for which you should thank the Lord. His blessings are innumerable. But on this day, take time to chronicle much. Get very specific. Thank the Lord for all things: Thank him for your provision, and the protection He has given to you all year. Thank Him for the pains and sorrows that are driving you closer to Him. Thank Him for the problems you have, and thank Him for all the horrors from which you have been spared. Thank Him for your parents, your children, and your loved ones. Thank Him for the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Thank Him for those friends who love you and who you love. Thank Him for the opportunities He has given to you. Thank Him for the mentors in your life. Thank Him for the sweet seasons and the beautiful memories He has given to you. Thank Him for His Church and His Word. But most of all thank Him for Jesus Christ. Because of Christ, you can be forgiven of sins, reconciled to the Father, and have the promise of eternal life.

2. Share the Greatest Stories of the Pilgrim Fathers and God’s Providence

Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.—Deuteronomy 32:7

Thanksgiving Day is a time for quizzes and story-telling. A great place to begin is by dedicating time to recount the rich historical evidence of the providence of God in the life of this nation through the story of the Mayflower Pilgrims. From their humble beginnings as a cadre of faithful friends and devoted Christians meeting in Scrooby, England, to their visionary leadership and perseverance in the New World at Plymouth Plantation, these faithful Separatists left one of the greatest legacies in the history of the New Testament Church. Yet most American Christians know little to nothing of the true story of these indefatigable men and women of God. This Thanksgiving, remedy the problem by telling their story. If you don’t have any of the many books on the Pilgrims available from Vision Forum, do a little online research. Visit the website of Pilgrim Hall Museum, for example. Share the stories of the friendship of William Bradford and William Brewster; of the persecution of the Scrooby Congregation; of the hardship and perseverance of the families on board the Mayflower; of the first Sabbath at Pulpit Rock; of the importance of the Church covenant and of the long first winter in America. Tell how God used a young Indian boy named Squanto to save the colonists, and share the story of the peace treaty between the Pilgrims and Chief Massasoit which lasted fifty years. Make sure to read the farewell letter of pastor John Robinson to his congregation. Have your children join in the story-telling. Make sure to emphasize the faithfulness and providence of the Lord.

3. Read the Fourth Chapter from Of Plymouth Plantation Aloud to Your Family

Last and not least, they cherished a great hope and inward zeal of laying good foundations, or at least making some ways toward it, for the propagation and advance of the gospel of the kingdom of Christ in the remote parts of the world, even though they should be but stepping stones to others in the performance of so great a work.—William Bradford

If you only read from one book outside the Bible this Thanksgiving, make it Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford. And if you only have time for one chapter, make sure it is the fourth. It is in this chapter that we learn about the true reasons why these home-schooling pilgrims debated over whether or not they should risk their lives to go to America, the ultimate reasons for their departure (including concern over bad peer influences with their children), and their tremendous confidence in God. Most importantly, it is here that you read of Bradford’s multi-generational vision of victory. Note: From the approximately fifty survivors of the first winter, more than 30 million descendants have come.

4. Take a Pilgrimage to the Homes of the Pilgrims — From Your Living Room

Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.—Proverbs 22:28

We are losing our landmarks to liberty in our nation. As I documented in my article Plymouth Crock, we are even desecrating the landmarks to our Pilgrim fathers. This is one reason why I believe it is so important that we physically bring our children to the great Ebenezers of our freedom while they yet remain. Finally, after more than a decade leading families to Plymouth, home of the Pilgrim fathers, I was able to take 100 Americans this year on a journey to Scrooby, England, and the little manor house where the Pilgrim congregation was birthed. What a journey! Please let me share it with you by watching the video which I have posted on my blog. Then learn about the little eight-hundred-year-old manor house that changed the world in my article, “A Pilgrimage to Scrooby.”

5. Read George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation at the Dinner Table

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness. Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.—George Washington

The practice of setting aside days of prayer, days of fasting and humiliation before the Lord, and days of thanksgiving for the mercies of Jesus Christ was practiced by our Pilgrim and Puritan fathers, promoted by our legislatures and Congress, and honored by our presidents. On this national day of Thanksgiving, let’s remember that we do not honor a “turkey day,” but the God of Heaven who George Washington described in his Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789, as “the great Lord and Ruler of Nations.” I recommend that you print off the proclamation and read it before your dinner meal.

6. Tell the Story of the Providence of God in the Life of Your Family

I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. —Psalm 78:2-4

The Lord has not only blessed this nation with a rich providential history, but you too have a story that needs to be told. Your children need to hear it and understand the mercies of God in the life of your family. So, this Thanksgiving, chronicle all that God has done in the history of your family. How many generations has your family been in America? How did they get here? When, if ever, did your fathers embrace the Gospel?

7. Purpose to Fight Hard and Hold Fast

History is not made by majorities, but by dedicated minorities of like-minded friends who have joined together in common cause. This was the Pilgrim legacy, and it must be ours as well. To change the world, courageous men and women must “fight hard and hold fast” to the things they know to be true. Most people will not fight hard and hold fast (which is why most people are spectators instead of world-changers). If you are grateful, purpose to be engaged. Purpose to be part of an important work for the Lord. Purpose to stand with those who are fighting hard and holding fast. Purpose to be a twenty-first-century pilgrim for Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: Happy Thanksgiving!

On behalf of Beall, Joshua, Justice, Liberty, Jubilee, Faith Evangeline, Honor, Providence, and Virginia, and all the families of Vision Forum, we wish you a truly happy, truly grateful, truly blessed Thanksgiving Day!

May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may He cause His face to shine upon you.

Journey to Scrooby - A Thanksgiving Pilgrimage

Coming shortly...

The 17th Century TSA Searches the Underwear of the Pilgrims

Tyrants wage war on on women and children through their bureaucratic ambassadors. It is true today, and it was true in the 17th century. One form of tyranny is to set aside Christian decency and propriety, by forcibly violating the sanctity of the persons of women and children. This can be done by shameless TSA officials in modern airports wearing gloves, or at shipping ports by the officers of James I, King of England.

The year was 1607 and the Pilgrims were trying to quietly leave the country for the Netherlands. When they arrived at the port, their ship was nowhere in sight. The captain they had negotiated with had swindled them and turn them in to the TSA of the 17th century who demanded to search the Pilgrims. The men, women and children were forcibly subjected to a highly immodest search in which the state officials placed their hands into the clothing of the Pilgrims to feel inside their very underwear. After this indignity, they were taken to the Boston prison where they stayed for a month.

History has vindicated the Pilgrims. The TSA agents of James I are today recognized as scoundrels and rascals.

A Thanksgiving Declaration from George Washington

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

What Texas Can Do to Stand Against the TSA Offense to the Family, Constitutional Liberties and Basic Decency

On November 2, Governor Rick Perry was elected to an unprecedented third term to serve as governor of Texas. His campaign platform this election cycle could be summarized by this sentence: “Washington, don’t tread on the liberties of Texans.” Perry invoked the Tenth Amendment numerous times throughout his campaign, pledging to defend Texans against unlawful encroachments from Washington.

Since the election, Perry has released a new book entitled, Fed Up! in which he states: “Our fight is clear. We must step up and retake the reins of our government from a Washington establishment that has abused our trust. We must empower states to fight for our beliefs ... [and] set out to remind our fellow Americans why liberty is guaranteed in the Constitution, and take concrete steps to take back our country.”

If Gov. Perry is serious about taking “concrete steps” to “retake the reins of our government from a Washington establishment that has abused our trust,” then as the Chief Magistrate of Texas, he should defend Texans against unlawful encroachments of the TSA who are conducting unconstitutional full-body scans and invasive pat-downs, and declare that these actions will not be tolerated in Texas.

Constitutionally, Texans are not under the jurisdiction of the TSA, an unelected body. We are subject to the Texas and US Constitutions. We urge Governor Rick Perry to exercise his lawful authority and interpose on behalf of the state he governs, and challenge the security scanners and pat downs. He has the moral authority of the law of God, the authority of the US Constitution’s 4th Amendment — which forbids unreasonable searches and seizures — as well as the principle of the 3rd Amendment which was enacted to prevent the government from using fear tactics to suspend the privacy of families and individuals from government usurpation.

But Governor Perry has another important source of authority which he is duty-bound to enforce as the chief executive of this state — Section 1 and Section 9 of the Texas Constitution’s Bills of Rights, which read as follows:

Sec. 1. FREEDOM AND SOVEREIGNTY OF STATE. Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States, and the maintenance of our free institutions and the perpetuity of the Union depend upon the preservation of the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States.

Sec. 9. SEARCHES AND SEIZURES. The people shall be secure in their persons, houses, papers and possessions, from all unreasonable seizures or searches, and no warrant to search any place, or to seize any person or thing, shall issue without describing them as near as may be, nor without probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation.

Texas has a rich history in defense of individual liberties. Liberty-minded Texans should urge Gov. Perry to back up his words with courageous action and interpose on behalf of men, women, and children against the lawless actions of the TSA.

The SAICFF and CFA Highlighted on the Examiner.com

The 2010 Christian Filmmakers Academy opened to a packed ballroom at the Grand Hyatt on the River Walk in downtown San Antonio. The theme of this year’s film academy, which is held in conjunction with the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (SAICFF), was “Reclaiming our Film Culture for the Lord, by Taking Every Frame Captive.” President and Founder of Vision Forum, Doug Phillips had a vision in 2004—Instead of cursing the darkness he and his company decided to light a candle to be a guiding light in the Christian film industry. “We are blessed to see real growth in the independent Christian film movement since we launched the film festival in 2004,” remarked Phillips. “A new generation of filmmaker is emerging outside Hollywood ready to claim the moral high ground through well-crafted films, rather than follow the destructive values of Tinseltown.”

The TSA ramps up their attack on individual liberties, basic decency and moral propriety by insisting that Americans submit or pay a $11,000 fine! Meanwhile the humiliation of men and women continues.

ABC News reported the following outrageous incident that happened to one of their employees:

“An ABC News employee said she was subject to a ‘demeaning’ search at Newark Liberty International Airport Sunday morning. ‘The woman who checked me reached her hands inside my underwear and felt her way around,’ she said. ‘It was basically worse than going to the gynecologist. It was embarrassing. It was demeaning. It was inappropriate.’”

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked if she would submit to a pat-down, she stated: “Not if I could avoid it, no. I mean, who would?” Read the story here: TSA Pat Down Went Too Far, Agency Chief Says: TSA Administrator Says Search of Passenger’s Underwear Should Have Never Happened, Agency May Rethink Protocols.

MSNBC reported the egregious and humiliating incident experienced by a cancer survivor: “A retired special education teacher on his way to a wedding in Orlando, Fla., said he was left humiliated, crying and covered with his own urine after an enhanced pat-down by TSA officers recently at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

“‘I was absolutely humiliated, I couldn’t even speak,’ said Thomas D. ‘Tom’ Sawyer, 61, of Lansing, Mich.

“Sawyer is a bladder cancer survivor who now wears a urostomy bag, which collects his urine from a stoma, or opening in his abdomen. ‘I have to wear special clothes and in order to mount the bag I have to seal a wafer to my stomach and then attach the bag. If the seal is broken, urine can leak all over my body and clothes.’”

Read the full story here: TSA pat-down leaves traveler covered in urine.

While yesterday, TSA Administrator John Pistole stated that they would not back down from the new invasive security measures, the New York Times reported earlier today that Pistole conceded changes might be considered during a Today Show interview this morning. Read the story here: Administration to Seek Balance in Airport Screening.

CNN also had this helpful story summarizing the backlash that passengers are voicing over the pat-downs: Pat-down backlash grows during holiday travel rush.

Fines for those who don’t comply can be hefty — to the tune of $11,000 — as the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported in this story $11,000 fine, arrest possible for some who refuse airport scans and pat downs.

How to Help Your Children to Listen Better

Listen: What The Bible Says About Being a Good Listener!

“Listen to me!” “Listen to your Mother!” “You are not listening!”

Listen: What The Bible Says About Being a Good Listener
Free Gift with Purchase of Any Size

Oh, how many times have we heard these words? How many times have we said them to our children? The truth is that we live in a world filled with constant noise. Between the iPods, televisions, computers, and inconsequential chitter-chatter, we may live in the most distracted generation in history.

Then, of course, there is just the problem of selfishness and sin in general, which takes our focus off of God and others and puts it on ourselves. The cumulative impact is a crisis of listening — we have lost the art and skill of being good listeners. We hear much, but we don’t really listen. What is worse, our children have inherited the bad listening traits of their parents. And there are serious consequences.

The Bible actually has much to say about listening. It speaks to the necessity of listening. It tells us how we are to listen. It reminds us that blessings in our daily life, and the future of our eternal soul itself, are directly linked to our willingness to listen well. Children are deemed faithful when they listen to their parents. One of the reasons why Scripture is so emphatic about listening is that our entire faith, and the worldview which proceeds from it, is communicated through words. Ours is a word-based faith. Christ is the living Word. The Bible is the Word of God. God creates through the spoken word: “Let their be light, and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Listening to words, listening to communication properly, is an integral part of our salvation: “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). We must learn to listen!

In this new message, Listen: What the Bible Says About Being a Good Listener, Doug Phillips shares what the Bible teaches in regards to listening and its practical application for husbands and wives and for parents and children. He addresses the question: How can parents train their children to be better listeners — first to God, then to their parents?

Listen addresses what the Bible says about the folly of inattentiveness, about the need to turn off the noise and simply be quiet before the Lord, and of the art of listening well to other members of the family.

Now Listen: What the Bible Says About Being a Good Listener and Its Practical Applications for All of Life is available to you as our gift for the next 24 hours* to everyone who makes a purchase of any size.

The Emperor Wants You to Have No Clothes

By Doug Phillips

In our latest installment of the “let us throw aside all principles of freedom, constitutional liberties, and moral proprieties for the perception of state-certified security” chronicles, we find Uncle Sam introducing full-body scanners and “nothing-is-sacred” physical body exams for Americans who travel by plane.

Those who decline to have the government take a highly intrusive and revealing image of themselves in a virtual state of undress will be subjected to an even more intrusive search which smacks of improper groping. John Tyner learned this lesson the hard way.

My home town of San Antonio is the latest target of the new measures. Today, four full-body scanners (AIT—Advanced Imaging Technology) rolled out at the San Antonio International Airport.

If this is the future, it is time for us to rethink our travel options.

But that is not enough: We must teach Americans to act, live, and vote like free men, not slaves. This means many things, including the necessity that we revisit the godly covenants, charters, and laws for which the men of past generations fought and died.

The Constitution is one place to start. In the Fourth Amendment to our Bill of Rights, we see our Founding Fathers anticipating the improper practices of the State run amok. The amendment states that “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated. . . .”

The word “unreasonable” stands out. What could be more unreasonable than to have some wet-behind-the-ears, twenty-five-year-old TSA official demanding to take what are essentially pictures of the naked bodies of your wives and daughters? Actually, there is something worse—his insistence that he grope them, if they decline to submit to the AIT.

In defense of this barbarism, officials tell us that the right to fly is a privilege, and that normal constitutional rights do not apply. By agreeing to fly, we also agree to waive the rights of citizenship protected under the Constitution. This is a helpful ruse which can be extended to virtually every area of life. It is precisely the type of thinking our Founding Fathers sought to defend us against when they declared that “the right of the people to be secure in their persons . . . shall not be violated. . . .”

Little by little, the American people are being conditioned to relinquish their constitutional freedoms and their dignity—all this in the name of security. Fear is a great motivator, and the government plays this card extremely well. It is always in the name of security that families are stripped of the fundamentals. But this time, the emperor wants you to have no clothes.

A Very Beautiful Letter Received Today, On The One-Year Annivesary of The World Premiere of The Mysterious Islands

A Letter to Mr. Phillips on the One Year Anniversary of the World Premiere of The Mysterious Islands:

...I breathlessly walked into the Palladium IMax Theatre in San Antonio, Texas with my father. I barely noticed the people around me. I took little account of the venue. This was the premier showing I had been waiting for. This was the night I had been praying for. It was November 12, 2009 - eight months after the return from the Galapagos Islands. The product of that journey to the Galapagos was about to appear on the screen. Eight months of hard work, research, and prayer had produced The Mysterious Islands: A Surprising Journey to Darwin’s Eden. With little foreknowledge of what the next 90 minutes would hold, I sat down with my family in the dark theatre.

Praise the Lord! After those 90 minutes, I realized that I had just seen a documentary that had been years in the making. My belief was confirmed that the expedition to the Galapagos archipelago was not in vain. A myriad of the most critical issues in the battle for beginnings had been clearly laid out in an exciting and adventurous manner - seemingly impossible. But, no! Nothing is impossible with God. The Lord had blessed the efforts of a small group of men. Their work for the glory of God would arm the people of God for the fight. Those modern day Darwinists who hate God and constantly send fiery darts into the field had been countered with an atomic bomb. This documentary would go far.

Since that day - exactly one year ago - I’ve seen the Lord accomplish amazing things through this film. I’ve seen thousands show up for the special premiers throughout the country. I’ve seen hundreds filled with gratitude that someone was willing to speak to this issue on the anniversary of Darwin from ground zero. I’ve seen my generation far better equipped to answer the key questions of beginnings asked by skeptics and atheists of our day.

So, Mr. Phillips, I wanted to write to you tonight and tell you “thank you”. Thank you for traveling to the Galapagos and producing The Mysterious Islands. I wish that I could formulate my thoughts and gratefulness a little better. But, thank you for “dreaming big dreams for the Lord” and having faith that God will “bring [them] to pass.” Thank you for your perseverance and endurance. Thank you for taking men like my father with you. Thank you for fighting the battles of the Lord from the front lines. Thank you for standing under attack. Your work - the battle we fight - is not in vain. We are fighting a winning battle for the King and Creator God. Christ will be victorious and we will overcome the world; it will be a victory that all will see. (1 John 5:4-5) “If God be for us, who can be against us?” “With God we will gain the victory.”

While new projects and new battle plans are incubating daily, I am confident that the Lord is not through with The Mysterious Islands either. I pray that nine years from now we will recount thousands more stories and works that God has wrought in the hearts of individuals and in the transformation of the culture - in a little email called “Ten years ago tonight...”!

May the Lord bless and strengthen you, sir. The F. family is praying for you and all of the Phillipses and we love y’all very much.

Introducing 'Joyfully at Home,' by Jasmine Baucham

Introducing ‘Joyfully at Home,’ by Jasmine Baucham
Get Biblical Answers to the Tough Questions Girls Face

We know that the chief purpose and end of man is “to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” (1) But how does this calling apply to daughters living at home? And how do daughters and parents explain that application to their extended families, pastors, and loved ones?

Jasmine Baucham, the oldest daughter of Christian speaker, author, and church elder Dr. Voddie Baucham, answers these important questions in her brand-new book, Joyfully at Home. Click Here to Purchase.

By age fourteen, Jasmine Baucham’s little-girl dreams of becoming a mommy were supplanted by bigger visions of winning the Pulitzer Prize or an Oscar and appearing on Oprah. She began viewing the calling of home and marriage as second-rate. Then her world was radically challenged by the Scriptures, as she went from craving personal renown to craving to please the Lord through delighting in his design for the joyful home — an even bigger dream, she realized, than stardom.

With humor, humility, and heart, Jasmine offers insight from her own struggles and victories as a young woman, tackling the tough questions Christian girls face and offering practical counsel on how to overcome false views of marriage, husbands, and singleness.

In her introduction to Joyfully at Home, Jasmine writes:

I want to encourage young women to shift their focus, to turn their hearts towards the home, to be enthusiastic and vibrant, purposeful and driven, meticulous and passionately focused in pursuit of the Lord’s will for their time at home. I want them to grasp the bigger picture: A vision for the home as a hub of ministry and discipleship, as a training ground for life ahead, as a place where they can bless those nearest and dearest to them, and, as a result, turn that blessing outward towards others in their church and community.

Through Joyfully at Home you will learn how to:

  • Become a good daughter to your Heavenly Father
  • Become a good daughter to your parents
  • Become a good sister to your siblings
  • Help create a joyful home atmosphere
  • Find joyful contentment
  • Overcome a false view of marriage, husbands, singleness, and self
  • Overcome a false view of God’s sovereignty
  • Embrace the “Bigger Picture” of life
  • Explain to others (and to yourself) why you choose to stay at home
  • Answer the “What Ifs?” and “Are You Judging Me?” questions
  • Understand how ministry in the home coincides with the Great Commission
  • And much more!

The Greatest Acceptance Speech I've Ever Heard in My Life

Never in my life have I witnessed such a humble, powerful beautiful testimony of gratitude which demonstrated the kind hand of God answering the prayers of children, as I did when Curtis Bowers accepted the award for $101,000 for Best of Festival for his film Agenda. Make sure to watch the entire clip. It is amazing.

A Friend and Spiritual Son Remembered: On the Third Anniversary of the Death of Michael Billings

Yesterday marked the third anniversary passing of Michael Billings, a spiritual son to me and a young man who changed our lives through his passion for the law of God, his intensity in pursuit of the knowledge of God, and his kindness as a Christian man. We miss him dearly.

As a special honor to Michael, we are offering four commemorative tracks on BlueBehemoth.com free for download: (1) “Seize the Day” performed by Charlie Zahm; (2) “The Ballad of Billings” performed by George Sarris; (3) “Michael Billings: A Musical Tribute” by Benjamin Botkin; (4) and “Life is But a Vapor” by Michael Billings.

Feminist Republican Sarah Palin on "Neanderthals" who "pick on petty things like whether you can or can not work outside the home if you have small children," and why she believes they must "evolve."

.

She hopes such people (i.e. her Christian brethren who understand the Bible to encourage women to be keepers at home) will eventually “evolve.”

“And Geraldine has also been grossly attacked back in ‘84, and I remember, um, as a young college student watching what it was that you were going through and knowing that a.) and more power to you for busting that glass ceiling you know and standing on the shoulders of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony, and others who had come before you, of course, so many years ago. And, then you busting through and then the opportunity that I and other woman following you have, have been able to seize. That’s just been wonderful. It’s been great for our nation, it’s been so good.

But, yeah, it kind of seems, Geraldine that some things haven’t changed. There are still the Neanderthals out there, who pick on the petty little superficial meaningless things like looks, like whether you can or can’t work outside of the home if you have small children. All those type of things where I would so hope that at some point, uh, those Neanderthals, will evolve into something a bit more, um, with it, a bit more modern, and a bit more understanding that, yeah, woman can accomplish much...”

—Sarah Palin, in a joint Fox News appearance with Geraldine Ferarro on Election Night 2010 (Nov. 2). Palin and Ferarro are the only two women to be US Vice Presidential running mates (Palin for John McCain, 2008; Ferraro for Walter Mondale, 1984).

UPDATE: Christianity Today has posted a helpful blog post highlighting the divide among conservative women concerning Sarah Palin’s choice to champion feminism by speaking favorably of Geraldine Ferarro’s bid for the Vice Presidency and defending her own efforts to lead in the political arena, rather than affirm fundamental moral principles.

ALSO: I would remind readers of our position articulating the biblical illegitimacy of Sarah Palin’s bid for the Vice Presidency in 2008 in “Sarah Palin and the Complementarian Compromise” and in “But What About Deborah? Why the Example of Deborah Does not Support the Candidacy of Sarah Palin”.

A Theory of Leadership on Christian Film Sets

This year the Christian Filmmakers Academy addressed the question of Christian leadership on a film set. Stephen Kendrick and Geoff Botkin joined me for a hard-hitting discussion on two subjects of specific importance to the future of our movement. First, the three of us explained both the theological and practical problem of union labor, and the damage it has caused to the film industry. Second, we addressed the nature of leadership on a Christian film set. We identified the key problems which will undermine the unity of a set, and offered strategies for bringing clear direction, spiritual oversight and practical unity to a team which might include non-Christian industry professionals working along-side Christians.

A History of The SAICFF: Kevin Turley Explains Why You Must Dream Big for the Lord

The Bible tells us to not despise the days of small beginnings. But one man’s great vision might appear overly-ambitious, or even folly to another. This is the story of the genesis of the vision for fighting for the family in America by building a distinctively biblical culture of film outside of Hollywood. This vision did not start with rousing applause, but it became a source of deep satisfaction to every member of our team. Today, we all look back with amazement on the many kindnesses of the Lord in prospering this effort.

"Radioactive" Why the pantheists are winning, and what can be done about it!

My keynote address “Radioactive” critiques Food, Inc., Avatar, The Cove, 2012, the Al Gore documentary, and more as I survey two issues—first, the effectiveness of Hollywood pantheists and environmentalists to subvert culture through media, and, second, the absence of a thoughtful response in film from the Christian community because we have abandoned the dominion mandate, and failed to mount an army to take the field. Watch the clip.

Still Fighting Hard and Holding Fast!

“Fight Hard and Hold Fast.” This is my maxim. It is also the message of the Vision Forum cataloge this year. I am so encouraged to here that it encourages others. Here is one powerful note we received yesterday.

I checked the mailbox so many times today...I just sensed in my spirit that there would be something important there...a “message” from God, if you will. When the mail finally did come, I eagerly flipped through it. I had pictured a check, or some financial provision out of nowhere, but I was disappointed. Junk, junk, a fundraising plea, two craft catalogs...and the new Vision Forum one. I almost threw it away, because I knew I’d be tempted to buy some neat stuff for our 4 kids. But the title caught my eye, “Fight Hard and Hold Fast.” I ran to show my husband. I didn’t even need to explain; I could tell he was thinking the same thing. To make a long story short, today was a “do or die” day in our fledgling...business (and it is so much more than a business...there’s a worldwide vision and calling attached to it...). We felt strongly that God is calling us to grit our teeth, dig in our heels, and stick to it in spite of the odds, in spite of the cost. “We’re saying we’re going for bust, you know that, don’t you?” my husband asked me. I knew. “Fight Hard and Hold Fast” were the words of confirmation we needed, and they echoed the words of others on the journey with us. I trimmed the catalog cover, intending to tape it to the fridge door...but then I noticed Doug’s message on the other side. It was as if he had had a personal conversation with us this morning; it was that pointed, that specific to our situation.... All I can say is THANK YOU.

—A grateful wife and mother

PRESS RELEASE: San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival Announces 2010 Jubilee Award Winners

SAN ANTONIO, TX — November 1, 2010 — More than 1,700 participants representing states from coast to coast and such foreign countries as Ireland, Nigeria, and New Zealand were on hand for the presentation of the Jubilee Awards during closing ceremonies at the sixth annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, held at the Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio this last weekend.

“Our goal with the Jubilee Awards is to reward the work of Christian filmmakers who have artfully communicated a Christian worldview through their film production,” explained Doug Phillips, founder of the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.

“Thanks to aid of a private foundation, we are pleased to give the single largest cash prize of any film festival in America, as well as to honor the other fine winners at the 2010 festival.”

The ‘Best of Festival’ Jubilee Award — with its $101,000 cash prize — went to Agenda: Grinding America Down, a documentary that traces the alive-and-well socialist agenda from its roots established by Karl Marx and other radical revolutionaries to the present day, demonstrating how that Communist ideals have largely captured America and uprooted the once-great foundation of our nation. The 92-minute film was produced and directed by former Idaho legislator Curtis Bowers.

“It is such an honor to receive the award for ‘Best of Festival,’” Bowers stated.

“I want to thank Vision Forum, and I want to thank Doug Phillips for the vision he has had to not only create Vision Forum that has motivated us and driven us to be better home schoolers, to be better parents, to be bonded with our children, but then the Film Festival,” continued Bowers. “I would never have made a film in my life if I had not come to the ... [Christian] Filmmakers Academy and [San Antonio Independent Christian] Film Festival just last year. I was so motivated and so inspired by what they said and what they taught us.”

“They made me realize how important this is: how powerful media can be, and how important it is that we be involved in [this arena].”

Representative Bowers, an alumni of the Christian Filmmakers Academy, was inspired to produce Agenda after a “Letter to the Editor” he penned about the drastic changes in America’s culture became the feature story on the evening news and prompted protests at the Idaho State Capitol.

Bowers dedicated the award to his children, relating a poignant account of how his children have prayed for him since the day he shared with his family his goal to produce this documentary.

“That night when we were going to bed, I remember ... when [my son Christian] prayed, he said, ‘Dear God, help Papa’s film to win the Festival,’” observed Bowers. “Every single Friday since that Festival, my children have voluntarily fasted and prayed that Daddy wins the festival. And that is the only reason I am standing up here. I am not capable of making a movie.

“Kids, I am giving this to you, so you’ll always remember God does answer prayers.”

The top honor in the ‘Best Feature Film’ category was awarded to The Penny, a drama/thriller directed and produced by Nathan Webster of Filmweavers. The 88-minute film follows a series of disconnected strangers whose lives unexpectedly collide in what proves to be more than just a coincidence.

“We are both honored and humbled to have won this award,” stated Webster. “A feature film is no small undertaking, and we were very blessed to have an incredible team of cast and crew, many of whom we met at this festival in previous years. The SAICFF has been a great encouragement to us and a wonderful place to network with other talented filmmakers who share our beliefs. Our prayer is that this will be a springboard to reach many more audiences.”

George Washington Carver: An Uncommon Way, a stimulating documentary that traces the valiant life of Carver, garnered the ‘Best Documentary’ Award at the festival. The film, narrated by Dr. Voddie Baucham, was directed and produced by Ken Carpenter of Franklin Springs Family Media. This marks Carpenter’s third ‘Best Documentary’ Jubilee Award, who took home a Jubilee for The Terry Schiavo Story in 2009 and A Journey Home in 2005.

“Being honored with a Jubilee Award is very gratifying,” Carpenter noted. “The ideals of this festival resonate deeply with me, particularly those that encourage the telling of stories that provide hope and inspiration to audiences.”

The top honor in the ‘Best Dramatic Short’ category was awarded to The Mitt, a ten-minute film produced and directed by 19-year-old Sam Siske of Goodlettsville, Tennessee. “I was totally surprised to win this award,” remarked Siske. “And I give God all the glory.”

The much-anticipated Audience Choice Award went to The Runner from Ravenshead, a delightful film from Little Crew Studios that features an all-child cast played by the Seege children, ages 3 to 11. Their father, Joel Seege wrote, directed, and produced the film. The Runner from Ravenshead also got the runner-up nod in two other award categories: ‘Best of Festival’ and ‘Best Feature’.

“For sometime now it has been our family’s hope to do a business together, and to do something that would point others to Jesus Christ,” Seege remarked. “The Runner from Ravenshead project was the culmination of those ideas, and our first foray into the world of filmmaking. As a family we were truly overwhelmed and humbled by the support of the audience, not only with the audience choice award, but with the many kind words and encouragement from both the attendees and other filmmakers.”

The ‘Best Promotional Media’ Award went to The Cripple Effect, a twenty-four-minute film that highlights the state of Wisconsin’s remarkable heritage with trains which is now being jeopardized by an aging rail system never designed for the weight of modern trains. The promotional piece was produced and directed by Philip and Chris Leclerc of Leclerc Brothers Motion Pictures, who also produced Divided, a documentary on the danger of modern youth ministry which premiered at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival last Thursday night.

Seventeen-year-old Christy Miller received the ‘Young Filmmaker’s’ Award for Small Talents, a fourteen-minute film which she directed and produced. This humorous short film is based on the Parable of the Talents and challenges viewers to decide for themselves how they will dedicate their talents to God.

The ‘Best Treatment’ Award — an honor given for the best three-page written condensation of a proposed film, documentary, or TV dramatic production — went to Elizabeth Rouse for her proposed film, The Legacy. The winner received a $1,000 cash prize, a professional script analysis of the finished script based on the winning treatment, and a free copy of Final Draft screenwriting software.

Jeremiah Warren, who won ‘Best Trailer’ at last year’s festival, took home the ‘Best Commercial Advertisement’ Award for a spot he created to promo the new book, Pajama School. Eighteen-year-old Warren also took the runner-up award in this category for an ad he produced for KeepGoing.Biz.

Other winners included Dispatches from the Front: A Bold Advance, which garnered the runner-up award in the ‘Best Documentary’ category; and Accountable, which took second place for ‘Best Short Film’. Runner-up for ‘Best Young Filmmaker’ went to Legacy of Love, and Clarissa Belbas was tapped for second place in the ‘Best Treatment’ category for her proposed film, The Scattering.
